City of Kenner Summer Blood Drive
New Orleans –Chateau Estates Civic Organization and the Kenner North Kiwanis Club are working together to host a summer blood drive with The Blood Center Thursday, July 29 from 1-7 p.m. at The Event Center (1000 W. Esplanade - Behind Applebee's Restaurant.
There’s a critical shortage of blood nationwide related to the collateral damage of the COVID-
19 pandemic and it’s up to us to provide the blood and blood components necessary for patient
care. Demands are increasing as hospitals resume normal surgery schedules,” says Dr. Tim
Peterson, Medical Director of The Blood Center.
Blood donors receive TBC’s new Friends shirt, a mini-physical and a COVID immune response
screening that informs donors if they carry the COVID-19 antibodies produced from previous
exposure and/or vaccinations. All donations this week are also entered to win a Gulf Coast
‘Staycation’ from the Golden Nugget that includes dinner for two.
Over the past year, the traditional model for collecting blood at businesses, schools, religious
organizations, and civic events has been indefinitely disrupted.
Every year, summertime is a challenging time to ensure a robust blood supply as schools are
not in session and people go on vacation or otherwise modify their normal routines. The impact
of summer is a particular concern as travel resumes whiles schools and businesses have not all
returned to normal operations, and we enter hurricane season.
Due to COVID concerns:
• Blood centers across the country are taking extra measures to ensure both donors and
staff are safe and healthy, including social distancing measures and increased infection
control procedures.
• Eat a good meal before donating and visit TheBloodCenter.org on the day of donation to
begin the registration screening to accelerate the donation process.
• Donors need to wear a mask, be in good health, a 110 lbs. and 17 years of age (or 16
with a parent’s consent)
The Blood Center is a non-profit community service organization dedicated to providing blood
and blood components to patients throughout South Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. For
